Great Expectations

This might be a bit delayed but happy New Year. It’s time to start over, last year and everything that goes with it is over. Leave the past in the past and strive for the things that are to come in the future. Philippians 3:13 Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead. So now as so many people do is to make a new resolution for the new year. Ok so I know that they never work and not everybody does it, so let’s look at it this way it is time to expect new things. What are you expecting, anticipating to happen in the New Year?

Luke 1:35 The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God.
In the Bible when the baby Jesus was in the womb of Mary I’m sure the Joseph and herself where afraid cause this was something they had never expected would happen to them, but at the same time filled with joy cause they were witnessing the power of God at work in their lives. At the same time the Father in Heaven who sent Jesus to earth was expecting greater things for His son Jesus. That he would ultimately be the example for living a life in constant communication with the Father. He lived a perfect life for 33 1/2 years but that all pales in comparison to the goal of His life to die for our sickness – sin. Seems strange that Jesus’ lived to die, but the Father was always expecting for His son to be the answer to our problem.
It’s seems that man is always focused on the here and now. We are never looking more than a short time ahead of what is to come for us. All our problems keep us down and focused at us and how can I get out or fix the problem that’s in front of us now. God is always looking to the future. He is eagerly expecting to see His children come to maturity.

In the gospel of Luke is the end result.
Luke 24:1- But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they went to the tomb, taking the spices they had prepared. And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they went in they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. While they were perplexed about this, behold, two men stood by them in dazzling apparel. And as they were frightened and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them, “Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here, but has risen. Remember how he told you, while he was still in Galilee, that the Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men and be crucified and on the third day rise
God always knew that His expectation for His son would come to pass, but now His followers also knew that the Christ had gone up into heaven to be with His father.
Luke 24:36-41 As they were talking about these things, Jesus himself stood among them, and said to them, “Peace to you!” But they were startled and frightened and thought they saw a spirit. And he said to them, “Why are you troubled, and why do doubts arise in your hearts? See my hands and my feet, that it is I myself. Touch me, and see. For a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see that I have.” And when he had said this, he showed them his hands and his feet. And while they still disbelieved for joy and were marveling, he said to them, “Have you anything here to eat?”

Here I wonder do we ever loss site of what we are expecting? Even though they heard His voice and saw His hands and feet they still did not believe. As time goes by our expatiation might slip out of focus and not be in view. So we tend to go about our daily life without expecting anything to happen. But when it does we might not even recognize it. So how important it is to keep out eyes on the goal, to be thinking about it all the time to be praying about it keeping it in focus.

So the question is what are you greatly expecting from God?

Psalm 5:3 In the morning, O LORD, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation.

Psalm 62:5 My soul, wait you only upon God; for my expectation is from him.

Jesus is always eager and ready to give His children what they need. The Lord will surely respond to the reply of us His people, if we only cry out to Him. He is a faithful God and His word is true. So let’s expect great things from our great God this year.

Now it’s your turn I would like to hear what you have to say.

What are your expectations this year?

Has the Lord placed something on your heart that you would like to see happen, whether that is through you or the Church?

Hebrews 9:28 so also Christ died once for all time as a sacrifice to take away the sins of many people. He will come again, not to deal with our sins, but to bring salvation to all who are eagerly waiting for him.
