How great is our God?! Yes God is great but why is He great? It is good to say that God is great but it is better to know that He is great. So let’s find out, by dissecting the following, Chris Tomlin song How Great is Our God.
The splendor of a King, clothed in majesty
Let all the earth rejoice
All the earth rejoice
The first verse starts with a description of the King, He is clothed in majesty. Majesty is sovereign power, authority, dignity: the quality or state of being worthy, honored, or esteemed. So God is clothed with the highest power and authority, He is worthy to be honored. In other words all sovereign power, and all authority belongs or is who He is. This is our God
Psalm 93:1 The LORD reigns, he is robed in majesty; the LORD is robed in majesty and is armed with strength. The world is firmly established; it cannot be moved.
So the earth (you) should respond with rejoicing. We should simply be in awe, in amazement of who God is and how awesome He is.
Psalm 97:1 The LORD reigns, let the earth rejoice; let the many coastlands be glad!
He wraps himself in Light, and darkness tries to hide
And trembles at His voice
Trembles at His voice
Again the second verse simply states the facts. God is light where ever he is darkness cannot exist. Even darkness cannot stand the sound of His voice, it trembles at His voice. God can be the light in your darkest times. He can shine as the light when you can’t see where you are going. When there is darkness you can’t see anything but, He has the power to remove the darkness in your life whatever that may be, sickness, lost, or crisis in your life.
1 John 1:5 This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.
Psalm 139:12 even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you.
1 Timothy 6:16 who alone is immortal and who lives in unapproachable light, whom no one has seen or can see. To him be honor and might forever. Amen.
How great is our God, sing with me
How great is our God, and all will see
How great, how great is our God
God is great!! So you need to proclaim it to your world in every place. When you say how great your God is people will notice and things will change. In the world today everything is against talking about God and how great He is. Is it’s up to you to speak about His greatness. In Luke 19 Jesus says “I tell you, if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out.” The world might tell to it is not proper to pray or worship God in “public” at school or work anywhere outside of church or even you might think it is strange to talk to your friends about God. But Jesus says to not keep quiet, don’t let the world tell you what to do but remember God need’s you to praise not only does He desire it but it brings glory to his name and the world around you will see that God is worthy. He deserves our joyful praise. Cause if you don’t who will?
2 Corinthians 1:20 For all the promises of God find their Yes in him. That is why it is through him that we utter our Amen to God for his glory.
Age to age He stands
And time is in His hands
Beginning and the end
Beginning and the end
Just the facts God was from the beginning of time He is here and now and He is the one to come. God has always been standing for those who were for Him; all of time is in His control. The facts are simple but there is so much truth and power behind them.
Revelation 22:13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.
The Godhead Three in One
Father Spirit Son
The Lion and the Lamb
The Lion and the Lamb
What a great mystery God is One but three: Father, Spirit and Son. God is our Father who is in heaven, the Spirit who moves among us, and the Son Jesus who bore our sin on the cross.
Matthew 16:16, 17 Peter replied, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Jesus answered him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven.
Ephesians 4:30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.
John 1:14 the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
God is the fierce Lion of the tribe of Judea who is our defender and fights for us. But also is the gentle Lamb of God who submitted Himself to the Fathers’ will to take the place for us on that cross.
Genesis 49:8-9 “Judah, your brothers shall praise you; your hand shall be on the neck of your enemies; your father’s sons shall bow down before you. Judah is a lion’s cub; from the prey, my son, you have gone up. He stooped down; he crouched as a lion and as a lioness; who dares rouse him?
Genesis 22:8 “God will provide for himself the lamb for a burnt offering, my son.

Also this is a picture of peace when beasts like the fearsome lion will live in peace with peaceful creatures like the lamb. When you are before the great God, He can be the peace in your life when you are an untamed lion or if you cross paths with one. The lion and the lamb will lie down with each other now as King Jesus rules over your life and when He returns to reign over this earth.
Isaiah 11:6 The wolf shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the young goat, and the calf and the lion and the fattened calf together; and a little child shall lead them.
Isaiah 65:25 The wolf and the lamb shall graze together; the lion shall eat straw like the ox, And dust shall be the serpent’s food. They shall not hurt or destroy in all my holy mountain,”
says the LORD.
Philippians 4:7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Revelation 5:5 And one of the elders said to me, “Weep no more; behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has conquered, so that he can open the scroll and its seven seals.”
Name above all names
Worthy of our praise
My heart will sing
How great is our God
God has the Name above all names. God alone has the name which can bring men to salvation. Bow your knee and confess Jesus is Lord. Great is the God of majesty worthy of all praise!
Psalm 148:13 Let them praise the name of the LORD, for his name alone is exalted; his majesty is above earth and heaven.
Philippians 2:9-11 Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Psalm 145:3 Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised, and his greatness is unsearchable.
